Feasting With A Tudor King – Historic Royal Palaces’ “Henry on Tour” – Double Bill

We are delighted to welcome Professor Anthony Musson from Historic Royal Palaces to tell us all about feasting in Tudor times. What would it have been like to feast with the king?
And after the talk and Q&A, we have a special treat for you: join us for a show-and-tell in our old kitchens to see some of the food preparation in action!

Exeter is hosting a weekend of Tudor festivities and living history as part of Historic Royal Palaces’ Henry VIII on Tour. Events will kick-off around midday on Thursday 13 June with a civic procession from the Guildhall to Exeter Cathedral West Front where Henry VIII will be greeted in a spectacular musical welcome. We can look forward to a concert by Exeter Cathedral Choir and His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts, talks and demonstrations at Tudor sites within the city: St Nicholas Priory, Tuckers Hall and the Devon and Exeter Institution; ending with a royal banquet in the Guildhall. Celebrating Henry VIII’s close friendship with Henry Courtenay, Marquess of Exeter, the revelling continues the following week at Powderham Castle before heading to West Horsley Place (former Surrey residence of both Henrys) in late July.
