An extraordinary story of 700 years of survival. A sense of magic surrounds this romantic medieval moated manor house. Set in tranquil gardens hidden deep in the Kent countryside, celebrating 40 years of National Trust ownership this year.

Reflecting its beauty in the moat, the house is bursting with character. Find out about its many layers of history through the lives of some of its previous owners. These include medieval knights, a Tudor courtier, high society Victorians and an American businessman.

Wander through the fragrant cutting garden and colourful borders, and see what's growing in the newly reinstated walled garden. Borrow a deckchair and unwind in the pleasure ground with its trickling stream and serene lake. Or why not venture into the surrounding countryside, with stunning views across the Weald of Kent, on one of the three way-marked walks?

Relax in the Mote Café with a cake or a cream tea, or pick up some sandwiches and enjoy a picnic in the fresh air and the picturesque surroundings.

Don’t miss the little details, such as the intriguing Grade I listed dog kennel in the courtyard. Before you finish, be sure to also stop by the brand new visitor centre and gift shop with its wide selection of gifts and local produce.
