Part of Heritage Open Days 2026
Marriotts Warehouse is an impressive three-storey Tudor building, mostly of brick, which is administered by registered charity Marriott's Warehouse Trust. Incorporating stone from the demolished friaries of Lynn, this brick warehouse was originally constructed by the Clayborne family to store their corn, salt and wine. It is Grade II* listed and takes its name from the Marriott brothers who owned or leased several granaries on the South Quay in the 19th century, including this warehouse.
The Trust, which aims to promote the history of this building and the trading history of the town, has displays which tell the story of the magnificent warehouses and Lynn's trading past. On the second floor are exhibitions of models featuring iconic local buildings and a townscape by local carpenter Fred Hall.
At 10.30 am & 1.30 pm there are showings of the feature film, Into The Mystic, based on the Book of Margery Kempe, the King’s Lynn medieval mystic, known as the first person to dictate an autobiography in English. Currently in final stages of production in King’s Lynn, it is written, directed and produced by Mirabelle Dominé-Walley and Luke Walker, involving a team of talented Norfolk and London volunteers. It is part drama: her life at the turn of the 15th century and her meeting with the renowned anchoress, Julian of Norwich; part documentary, featuring Margery, dressed in white, wandering through the early period buildings of Lynn.
Marriott's Restaurant occupies the ground and part of the first floor and will be open for refreshments.
