Come and explore The Prior’s Tower with its beautiful Tudor ceiling. No booking required. View the Cathedral from a new perspective on one of our Bell Tower Tours. Advanced bookings encouraged.

Hidden behind high walls in Clerkenwell, the Charterhouse has a fascinating story that dates back to the 14th century. It has been a medieval monastery, a Tudor mansion, a boys’ school and an almshouse. Today we remain an almshouse, providing a home for older people with a housing need while sharing access to our heritage and investing in it for future generations.

This special taster tour for Heritage Open Days 2024 will share insights into the hidden history of one of London's Black Death cemeteries and explore the fascinating remnants of the Carthusian monastery, before revealing the splendour of the Tudor mansion that forms the heart of our thriving almshouse community.

Guests will also have the opportunity to visit our free museum display which tells the story of the Charterhouse through highlights from our collection, and our Chapel.
