Visit The Golden Hinde during her 50th anniversary year to find out more about its modern history and see an extensive refit project take place in central London.
The Golden Hinde has been undergoing extensive refit work since 2017 using traditional wooden boatbuilding skills and techniques. To achieve this we had to create our own shipyard underneath the ship in St Mary Overie Dock. A shipyard in the centre of London isn’t something that happens often.
We are using our 50th anniversary to fundraise for the refit and celebrate the ship's 50 years of history. Our open day provides a fantastic opportunity to view the progress of the refit and our central London shipyard in person. You can also discover the modern history of the ship with our 50th anniversary audio tour with previous crew members telling stories of the ship's adventures as a museum ship travelling around the world.
A museum of two histories 400 hundred years apart, better known for its history of the original 16th century ship, now you can come aboard to explore the modern history alongside the original with audio and guided tours.
