The first event in our 2025 Smart Talk series is on ‘Warwick almshouses after the Reformation: the Lord Leycester Hospital in context',​ presented by Dr Angela Nicholls.

Dr Angela Nicholls is a historian and former social worker who studies welfare provision in the early modern period in England.

This talk will reveal that there were other almshouses in Warwick around the time of the Lord Leycester’s founding, some still surviving today. Angela will discuss what we know about these almshouses, including who lived in them, and in what ways they might have differed from the Lord Leycester.

Join us for Smart Talks – a series of talks by learned academics, non-academics, and smart people across a variety of topics, with a traditional supper served alongside.

Tickets cost £25.00 per head which includes the presentation, supper, and your first drink. Additional drinks are available to purchase throughout the evening.

Smart Talks run on the 3rd Thursday of every month; 6pm-8pm
