Opened in 1997, following much research and international interest, this reconstruction of the Globe Theatre is situated a few hundred yards from the original site on the South Bank.
It is a 360 degree auditorium, with open-air stage and central yard, in which the audience stands, with seats arranged in galleries around the circumference of the building. Shakespeare’s works are performed at the Globe, along with a variety of works by other Renaissance playwrights.
The complex includes the Globe Theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, an exhibition and tours, and restaurant and bars.
