About Calverley Old Hall

An intriguing building, which has been added to, subtracted from, rearranged and developed across 700 years, Calverley Old Hall has now been brought right up to date with an exciting reimagining of the building for the 21st century. A newly discovered Tudor painted chamber hides alongside new rooms that occupy ancient spaces in spectacular harmony.

The new Landmark includes the stunning Great Hall with its late-15th century hammerbeam roof, overlooked by a gallery that leads to a first floor sitting room. There is no doubt that you find yourself in the 21st century: the building is heated by renewable energy and designed for accessibility, with clean modern design. Yet you are clasped by the changing archaeology of a thousand years, in a Landmark to contemplate the future as well as the past.

What's On

Meet the Owls, inspired by the Calverley family crest

We're excited to be joined by Yorkshire's bird of prey experts at SMJ Falconry. Meet friendly British and foreign owl species with a professional falconer for a memorable owl ecounter at Calverley Old Hall. This special bird encounter is inspired by the Calverley family crest, which features 'an orle of owls'.

Suitable for families, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Pre-booking is not required. We anticipate that there may be a queue for this activity over the weekend.

Collagraph Printmaking activity

In the Community Space over the weekend, take part in a free Collagraph printmaking activity that continues the owl theme of the event. Participants will be lead through the process to make their own unique print using stencils, tape and water-based inks.

About Silka Guy

Silka is a Leeds-based artist, printmaker, and experienced printmaking educator who specialises in inclusive, community-focused workshops. For over four years, she has worked with schools and organisations across Yorkshire, she is also a committee member of The Leeds Printworkshop, where she has been facilitating and contributing to local community printmaking events and workshops.

Drop-in at any time over the weekend, 10am-4pm. We anticipate quieter times to join the workshop will be between 10am-11.30am on Saturday and Sunday.

Free to take part, donations are welcome at booking via the above link or on the day. Separate booking for the workshop is not required and is covered by general event booking via the above link on Eventbrite.

Participants of all ages are welcome to take part. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Making a donation to Landmark as part of your visit

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to visit a Landmark for free as part of our Open Day programme, and as such we’re pleased to continue to offer free entry at all our Open Days in 2025.
The Landmark Trust is a building conservation charity that relies on donations to support its work. Over the past 60 years, public support has helped us rescue over 200 historic buildings and make them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your support by attending our events, booking a workshop, and making a donation allows us to continue to save buildings at risk and continue to maintain those already in our care. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore a future Landmark, offer opportunities for young people to experience history first-hand, or provide a charity with free Landmark stay for their service users through our 50 for Free scheme.

Donations can be made when you book your Eventbrite ticket, at the event via contactless donation points, or after your visit via our website under Support.

Accessibility

There is no parking on site but it is possible to drive up to and drop off those with limited mobility. There is a lift at this property between the lower ground, ground and first floors. Visitors wishing to use the lift must seek assistance from a member of staff. Mobility scooters are not permitted in the lift.

Registered assistance dogs only are permitted at the event. Please speak to a staff member on arrival. Dogs on leads are allowed in the front garden and Community space garden.
