The Jewel Tower was designed and built by Henry de Yevele in the mid-fourteenth century for Edward III. Located within the Palace of Westminster, the Tower, originally known as the King’s Privy Wardrobe, was used by Edward III and succeeding monarchs to protect valuable royal possessions.

It is one of only four sections of the old Palace of Westminster to survive the fires of 1512 and 1834. The others are: Westminster Hall, the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft and the Chapel of St Stephen and its cloisters.
