Situated adjacent to Westminster Abbey and opposite the Houses of Parliament, St Margaret’s Church has served as the parish church for the people of Westminster for many centuries. The original 12th century building was largely replaced in the early Tudor period and the interior was restored by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the late nineteenth century.
Notable burials at St Margaret’s include Sir Walter Raleigh; Blanche Parry, Chief Gentlewoman to Elizabeth I; Lady Dorothy Stafford, granddaughter of Lady Margaret Pole and Mistress of the Robes to Elizabeth I; and Lady Mary Dudley, daughter of William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham.
